Booking, Charges, and Agencies in Forsyth County

The booking record drives almost everything else. A booking creates the P2C profile, the case number, the bond amount, and the first court date when one is set. The arresting agency and the booking agency can be different. Cumming Police, the Georgia State Patrol, or a federal agency can arrest someone who is then booked into the Forsyth County Jail.

The charges table inside the profile lists each charge with a status, a docket number where one exists, and a bond type. A misdemeanor charge tagged "State Court" will route to the State Court docket. A felony charge will move to Superior Court for arraignment under the District Attorney. The Sheriff handles transport between the jail and the courthouse for in-custody hearings on the Jail Calendar.

Charge status changes as the case moves. An open charge can move to dismissed, plea, conviction, or transferred. Bond status can change after a first appearance, after a probation hearing, or after a revocation. The roster reflects the most recent booking event, not the entire case history. For the trial-court file behind the booking, use court records and the re:SearchGA portal.

Forsyth County Bond Amounts and Bond Types

Bond is the main reason most family members search the inmate roster. The P2C profile shows the bond amount and bond type for each charge when set. Cash, surety, and property bonds are the standard options when bond is allowed. No-bond status applies in serious cases or after probation revocation.

The Sheriff's bonding window is in the main jail lobby at the Veterans Memorial intersection. The jail accepts cash at the window; money orders, business checks, and personal checks are not accepted at the jail itself. Bonding companies may charge up to 15% of the total bond. Property bonds require a deed, a paid tax bill, current taxes, and equity at double the bond, with out-of-county property requiring coordination through the local sheriff.

For full bond and release walkthrough, see released inmates.

Visitation, Mail, and Commissary

The Sheriff's bonding and jail information page documents most family-service rules in one place. Inmate visitation and communication run through CTEL at ctel.us and mobile apps; the Sheriff's P2C also references Securus Technologies for phone communication. Mail uses a JailATM scanning address; legal mail still goes directly to the facility.

Forsyth County Jail Programs and Services

The Forsyth County Jail runs a wider program list than many counties of similar size. Church services run throughout the week with five denominations and more than 120 volunteers. The jail offers GED classes, Alcoholics Anonymous, and Narcotics Anonymous.

Transition classes cover anger management, parenting, budgeting and money management, listening skills, interviewing, how to get a job, and relationship change. Pups with Purpose is a 12-week class that pairs select inmates with rescued shelter dogs for care and obedience training before adoption. Litter Detail coordinates with Forsyth County Clean and Beautiful for road cleanup. RSAT is a grant-funded Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program for high-risk, high-needs offenders with substance-use history. The Litter Detail's first six months after mid-2018 inception collected 855 bags of trash and maintained 88 roads, according to the Sheriff's bonding-information page.
